Notes | -
Date attributed as map seems to show Fort Mercer (and not Fort Pitt as suggested in previous cataloguing), built between 1758 and 1759, after the destruction of Fort Du Quesne but before the completion of Fort Pitt.
-
Compare Maps K.Top.122.22. for another map showing Fort Mercer.
-
Shows a profile through the fort (scale approximately 1:240).
-
Shows a lettered key (A-G) at upper centre, including reference to "House for the Commandant not Finished".
-
Shows scale in yards at lower left with a note, "This Scale serves likewise for the Profile by making the Divisions feet at 20 to a inch".
-
Copy at Add Ms 21,686.73. Bound in a volume. Manuscript addition of "73" in pencil at upper right. Red stamp of British Museum to verso. Evidence of old folds. Manuscript annotation to verso in ink, "Plan of Pittsburgh 20th Jany".
