Notes | -
Previous British Library cataloguing suggests J. H. Bastide as possible cartographer. However, although the separate textual sheet may be in his hand, the map itself may have been drawn by another hand.
-
Compare similarities of hand with "Plan & Section of the Fort as it is Near Finish'd" (1 of 3 sheets comprising Add Ms 57,702.15.) or "PLAN of the TOWN and FORTRESS of LOUISBOURG on the ISLAND CAPE BRETON" (Add Ms 57,702.9.).
-
Shows title at upper right with signature of "Francois de Ruvynes, director of Mines in North America" and red stamp of R.U.S.I.
-
Shows positions of mines (explosives) within fortifications.
-
Names bastions.
-
Shows profiles through the fortifications around the plan (scale approximately 1:360).
-
Shows scales at lower right - "Scale for the Profil of 30 feet to an Inch" and "Scale of 80 feet to an Inch for the Plan of Mines".
-
With a separate sheet entitled "Dates of the Explosions of the Mines made for the Demolition of the Fortifications of Louisbourg from June the 4.th to November the 8.th 1760 Collected from the several Reports given into Colonel Bastide by Capt.n De Ruvyne Director of Mines and Capt.n Muckel Commanding the Company of Miners". Comprises a list of the dates of explosions and their location.
-
